WELL UPDATES
October 2024 The contractor gave an update on October 15th.
January 2024 The construction contract for building the treatment plant has been awarded and our pre-construction meetings will begin this month.
August 2023
The Carrizo aquifer at the drill site is from 680 ft – 780 ft deep. This is where the screen and gravel pack were installed.
The required 3 bacteriological samples have been taken (1 every 12 hours as it’s pumping). The results are good.
Additionally, a detailed water quality analysis is being completed. We should have results back within a few weeks, as they test for just about everything.
Though not a huge well, it does completely satisfy the needs of the entire Gum Creek system. Based on our peak calculations this summer, it will run roughly 50% of the time. An hour or so on, then off for an hour or so, which is normal for a community water well.
The next step is to finalize the treatment plant design and engineering in order to move forward with construction.
May 2023:
The initial drilling is almost complete and the volume looks very good. There is still a lot to be done to finish the well itself, then we will build the treatment plant and install transmission lines down to our tanks. We still have a long way to go, but we are making progress.
March 2023:
We are waiting on final permits to drill the well by the groundwater conservation district. Once that is received, we should have the go ahead to begin drilling. More updates to come.
December 2022:
We finally received approval from the state to drill our permanent well and put out bids for drilling. That process is complete and we hope to begin construction by February. Once the well is drilled, we will build a new treatment plant at the new site and construct a supply line to our water tanks. This process will take 6-9 months. Upon completion, the state will inspect the site for final approval, which can take a few more weeks. After we receive final approval from the state, we will be able to go on online. Our best estimate at this point is late fall of 2023. This will help alleviate some of the issues with supply as we will have two sources of water supply.
February 1, 2022:
We purchased land in October 2021 for the purpose of drilling a test well for water. The test well produced excellent water quality and volume to supply the needs of Gum Creek customers. We will be proceeding with drilling a permanent well as soon as the permits are received from TCEQ. We estimate the completion to be near the end of the year.
October 2024 The contractor gave an update on October 15th.
- The ground storage tank is complete and will be delivered on Tuesday, October 22nd. Uticor will begin setting the tank as soon as it arrives.
- The generator should be delivered two weeks after that
- The electrician should start the week of October 21.
- After all the above is completed, the contractor will begin tie-ins at the new plant, install the line extension to 747 and begin construction of the tie-in vault at the existing plant.

August 2023
The Carrizo aquifer at the drill site is from 680 ft – 780 ft deep. This is where the screen and gravel pack were installed.
- Static water level is 592 ft. This matches the test well, but is a little lower than some we have seen that are around 540 ft. (key information for drawdown limits)
- A 60 hp Hitachi motor with 11 stage pump was set at 719 ft.
- Well startup began on August 9th at noon and pumped 250 gpm open-ended. The draw-down rapidly dropped to the pumping motor level, meaning the pumping rate needed to be reduced.
- Well piping was valved down to give a head pressure of 30psi reducing the pumpage rate to 200gpm.
- The state required 36-hour pump test began at 9:0pm on the 9th after the 30psi head pressure was set (with readings taken every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours and 30 minutes thereafter).
- This pumped at 200gpm with the draw-down a little greater than desired.
- We valved down a little more to raise the head pressure to 40psi.
- This was a stable number with drawn staying steady at 692 (the point it had already reduced to) and a flow of 180 gpm.
